New Budget Approved

Friends,

Last night, Senate Republicans took back control of the Senate Chamber and passed a clean budget that did not include Medicaid Expansion.  The budget gridlock, which has kept the citizens of our Commonwealth in needless suspense and anxiety since March, ended convincingly late last night during a special General Assembly session.  Assuming the Governor signs the new two-year budget next week, local governments can now breathe a sigh of relief that a new budget will most certainly be in place on July 1st as scheduled. …

Bill Stanley on Redistricting

Dear Friends
Yesterday Senate Democrats released their plan for redistricting. Under Federal law, Virginia’s districts must be “contiguous and compact” and maintain “communities of interest” while ensuring that proper representation is achieved. The 2010 redistricting of the 19th senatorial district will last until 2020. The principal of “one person, one vote” requires that new districts be drawn based on the updated census numbers.

The first day of the General Assembly session this week was special for me and the citizens of the 19th District. I was proud to introduce Rev. Melvin Adams, of Franklin County, to the members of the Senate on Monday, February 21, 2011, when he delivered the Invocation at the opening of the Senate session. Rev.
